Monday's Courier News has a front-page story outlining the changes that having a satellite emergency room will bring.

While the impact of additional travel time and distances is mentioned in regard to the North Plainfield EMTs, there is no mention of the Plainfield Rescue Squad -- or mention of the impact that rising fuel prices are going to have on ambulance squads. With prices expected to top $4.00/gallon by summer, a doubling of the miles-to-hospital has potentially serious, if not catastrophic, implications for rescue squads.
